Buena Vista Heights Conservation Area

Description: Nestled within southeastern Allegheny County and five miles upstream from the Monogahela River, lies a lush 124-acre expanse protected by the Allegheny Land Trust (ALT). This 40-year-old maple, cherry, and oak-hickory forest with 200 year-old trees serves as a sanctuary for native deer, turkey, and various bird species. Hikers, birders, and mountain bikers can access the conservation area. Anchored within the Youghiogheny River Watershed, this conservation area plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the region’s water quality, benefiting the Pittsburgh area and its residents. The forest also mitigates flooding and landslides in the area. ALT, a 501(c)(3) non-profit ensures that revenue generated from carbon credits is judiciously reinvested. These funds further land acquisition, stewardship, and the expansion of conservation lands.
